More Than Bread Devotional for 6/13/08

Amos 5:21-22
21 “I hate, I despise your religious feasts;
I cannot stand your assemblies.
22 Even though you bring me burnt offerings and grain offerings,
I will not accept them.
Though you bring choice fellowship offerings,
I will have no regard for them.

There are some things that God simply cannot stand.  Doing religious things simply for the sake of doing them is one of those things.  When we worship or pray or sing or go to church simply because we feel obligated, God is not pleased.  He sees into our heart and knows how we feel and think.  He hasn’t changed and never will.  The same God who spoke through Hosea and said He desire mercy instead of law keeping, spoke those same words to us through Jesus Christ in Matthew not once, but twice.  Today and every day let us remember to worship God with a sincere heart.
