Ecclesiastes 1:9-11

There is nothing new underneath the sun is a familiar quotation from Scripture:

9 What has been is what will be,
and what has been done is what will be done,
and there is nothing new under the sun.
10Is there a thing of which it is said,
“See, this is new”?
It has been already
in the ages before us.
11There is no remembrance of former things,
nor will there be any remembrance
of later things yet to be
among those who come after.

Another way to say these words of caution is the common saying that those who fail to remember the past are doomed to repeat it.  Take both of these sayings together as you watch/listen to this warning and crusade against “socialized medicine” in 1961 by a man who would later be President of the U.S.

I wonder what will become of the current debate.  Will we learn from the past that this attempt to destroy freedom in our country is not a new tactic, but an old one?  Will we fight back once again to hold freedom for a little while longer yet?

  1. Reagan was awesome. How I miss that guy!

He started out as a Democrat…so there’s hope for the liberals.

  2. Steve,
There is always hope. I was still pretty young when Reagan was elected and he was president during most of my formative years. I didn’t realize how smart he was really until the perspective of hindsight, because back then I didn’t pay a lot of attention to those things.

  3. Right, Jeff!

It often happens that the older we get, the smarter we get.

That is often true for me!

I voted for Jimmy Carter, for cryin’ out loud!

  4. LOL. At least we know the Lord forgives us when we go astray. I have certainly wizened up a bit as I have aged, but considering where I came from, that doesn’t necessarily say a lot.
